Living in our society today has challenges never encountered by those who grew up in the mid-1900s. How do we cope with changes? The Department of Human and Community Development strives to answer this question by offering classes in human development and family studies. The Family Resiliency Program, housed in Doris Kelley Christopher Hall, supports innovative research into the family’s ability to be resilient in the face of life stressors and to successfully navigate the competing demands of work and family.
The department provides high-quality early childhood education to approximately 100 children who attend the Child Development Laboratory. The lab and its playgrounds serve as a model for early childhood play and activities for other laboratories, playgrounds, and schools throughout the state and nation.
